CaronAntica is an adventure, a vision, an ideal. Imagine an absolutely charming, almost magical place: the historical village of Carona, Switzerland. Contrasting today’s speed, CaroAntica slows down contemplating and rediscovering the ideal sound of Early Music, together with the wonderful setting of the village. A winning combination that brings the public into an all-around experience of beauty and harmony. Dedicated to early repertoire played on original instruments, this Festival brings in the precious dimension of Carona a series of free-entrance-concerts between February and July, where you can experience fascinating sounds and discover all the magic of early music. The “Fondazione Emiolia per la promozione della musica e strumenti antichi” is the promoter of CaronAntica. It is a non-profit cultural foundation set up in 2017, which organizes events related to Early Music in places of great historical and cultural interest, mostly in the area of Carona, Ticino. The Fondazione Emiolia is supported by Fondazione SORATO, a Swiss Foundation that supports young musicians, women in particular, to help them during their studies or to develop their career.
The Members of CaronAntica are:
Giulia GENINI: musician from Lugano, active in prestigious ensembles and orchestras such as I Barocchisti, Il Giardino Armonico, Accademia Bizantina, and others. She performs in international festivals and has recorded for the most important labels. Winner of the 1st prize of the Kiefer Hablitzel Foundation in 2013, she is responsible for the Master Studies in Performance at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano and teaches recorder in the same institution.
Lisa WENGER has been working in the field of personal development as a Gestalt coach and counselor for 30 years. She has the privilege to live in the charming Carona where her great-grandparents Lisa and Theo Wenger arrived in 1917, looking for a summer residence. She also takes care of her aunt Meret Oppenheim’s artistic legacy, overseeing the work and archive of her writings. Lisa is an active part of the committee of La Loggia Art Gallery and CaronaImmagina, two realities that, like CaronAntica, support and keep alive the culture, beauty and traditions of this historic village.
The musicologist Diego FRATELLI, professor of early music performance practice at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano and at the Civica Scuola di Musica Claudio Abbado in Milan, curator of monographic editions of polyphonic, sacred and profane music by Italian composers, mostly for Edizioni Milano, Edizioni Turri (Cremona) and for the Luca Marenzio Festival.
