CaronAntica dedicherà la tappa barocca del suo Festival Estivo 2025 alle voci perdute delle “Donne Barocche – tra sacro e profano”: un festival interamente declinato al femminile in cui le protagoniste assolute saranno le meravigliose voci dei soprani Gunta Smirnova, Cristina Fanelli, Hélène Walter e Mariana Flores. Queste quattro voci di soprano ci narreranno la storia di compositrici cadute nell’oblìo, di donne angelicate o di temibili cortigiane, di cantanti d’opera alle prede con il successo e con le passioni umane. Un caleidoscopio di emozioni tra convento e teatro, che riflette sulla non facile condizione della donna nel riascimento e nel barocco, spesso relegata nelle arti ad un ruolo subordinato e marginale, malgrado il luminoso talento.
CaronAntica will dedicate the Baroque section of its 2025 Summer Festival to the lost voices of the “Baroque Women – Between Sacred and Profane”: a festival entirely focused on women, where the absolute protagonists will be the marvelous voices of sopranos Gunta Smirnova, Cristina Fanelli, Hélène Walter, and Mariana Flores. These four soprano voices will tell us the stories of forgotten women composers, angelic figures or fearsome courtesans, opera singers grappling with success and human passions. A kaleidoscope of emotions between convent and theater, reflecting on the difficult condition of women in the Renaissance and Baroque eras, often relegated in the arts to a subordinate and marginal role, despite their brilliant talents.

Isabella Leonarda, Chiara Margherita Cozzolani, Claudia Rusca, Maddalena Casulana…. questi i nomi di alcune tra le più mirabili compositrici del 17° secolo, molte delle quali ritiratesi in Convento, luogo protetto e sicuro dove esercitare la propria arte in parallelo alla devozione religiosa, lontano dallo scherno della società per chi, come loro, non allevava figli ma adoperava la penna per scrivere melodie sublimi. L’ensemble in residenza di CaronAntica. insieme ai soprani Cristina Fanelli e Gunta Smirnova, dona voce alle opere più significative delle compositrici seicentesche, attive soprattutto nei Conventi del nord Italia. Stella Maris, la Vergine Maria nel repertorio sacro, la Stella Guida che risplende sul mare ma, in questo caso, anche la stella del talento musicale di queste donne artiste … stella che ha sempre brillato guidandole attraverso un’epoca di silenzio e rinunce, permettendo loro di esprimere la propria arte, la propria voce e personalità nelle pagine di musica meravigliosa arrivata sino ai giorni nostri.
Isabella Leonarda, Chiara Margherita Cozzolani, Claudia Rusca, Maddalena Casulana… these are the names of some of the most remarkable female composers of the 17th century, many of whom took refuge in convents—a protected and safe space where they could practice their art alongside religious devotion, far from the mockery of society. For women like them, who did not raise children but instead used their pens to compose sublime melodies, the convent became a sanctuary. The resident ensemble of CaronAntica, together with sopranos Cristina Fanelli and Gunta Smirnova, gives voice to the most significant works of these 17th-century female composers, who were primarily active in the convents of northern Italy. Stella Maris, the Virgin Mary in sacred music, the Guiding Star that shines over the sea, also symbolizes the musical talent of these women artists—stars who always shone, guiding them through an era of silence and sacrifices. This light allowed them to express their art, their voices, and their personalities in pages of beautiful music that have survived to the present day.

Nel bellissimo Santuario della Madonna d’Ongero, immerso tra i boschi dell’Arbostora e recentemente restaurato, il Festival CaronAntica prosegue ospitando un duo interamente femminile: la soprano Mariana Flores e la liutista Monica Pustilnik ci guideranno attraverso l’universo femminile del barocco in una formazione che ci riporta nelle corti Estensi, dove nel famoso Concerto delle Dame le artiste si esibivano in eccellenti concerti famosi in tutt’Europa.
In the beautiful Sanctuary of Madonna d’Ongero, nestled among the forest of Arbostora and recently restored, the CaronAntica Festival continues with a performance by an all-female duo: soprano Mariana Flores and lutenist Monica Pustilnik will guide us through the feminine universe of the Baroque period. This formation takes us back to the courts of the Este family, where, in the famous Concerto delle Dame, female artists performed in exquisite concerts renowned throughout Europe.

Nel concerto di chiusura del Festival Estivo di CaronAntica 2025, l’ensemble in residenza di CaronAntica rende omaggio alla donna come Dea dell’Amore e della Musica, paladina dei sentimenti positivi e negativi, la donna nella storia dell’Opera. Da Monteverdi a Haendel, i personaggi femminili delle opere barocche hanno incantato per generazioni il pubblico, raccontando storie di donne guerriere, maghe ammaliatrici, donne gelose avide di vendetta o donne angelicate paragonate a Divinità. La splendida voce della soprano Hélène Walter, insieme all’ensemble in residenza di CaronAntica, narreranno le storie più avvincenti e passionali delle Donne Barocche, sotto le stelle di Piazza Montaa, per un gran finale ricco di emozioni.
In the closing concert of the 2025 CaronAntica Summer Festival, the ensemble in residence pays tribute to women as the Goddesses of Love and Music, inspirations for both positive and negative emotions, and icons in the history of opera. From Monteverdi to Haendel, the female characters in Baroque operas have captivated audiences for generations, telling tales of warrior women, seductive sorceresses, jealous wives thirsting for revenge, or angelic figures likened to deities. The beautiful voice of soprano Hélène Walter, alongside the ensemble in residence of CaronAntica, will bring to life the most compelling and passionate stories of Baroque women, under the stars of Piazza Montaa, for a grand finale full of emotion.
